Widely recognized as the best salmon river in Northern Ireland, the River Mourne is the largest tributary in the Foyle drainage system. Pescatravel offers fishing on some of the best private waters the Mourne has to offer. Incuded in the fishery\u2019s rotation are the tributaries, Tinnudals\u00e1 and Nor\u00f0urdals\u00e1, two small rivers ideal for delicate fishing with one hand rods and small flies. The Fnjoska is a mid-sized river located on the northern coast of Iceland just 10 kilometers from Akureyri. Located 40 kilometers to the north west of the town of Egilssta\u00f0ir on the east coast of Iceland, the J\u00f6kla River rises out of the eastern side of the Vatnajokull Glaciar flowing 100 kilometers to where it empties into the North Atlantic Ocean. Prior to the construction of a hidro-electric dam on the river in 2006, the J\u00f6kla was one of the dirtiest rivers in Iceland because of the glacial silt it carried. With the dam, the reservoir served to filter out the sediment creating ideal conditions below the dam to create and excellent salmon river. Subsequently using salmon from some of the J\u00f6kla\u2019s clear water tributaries, a salmon spawning and smolt release program was established. In just a few years the J\u00f6kla fishery reached the amazing mark of 800 salmon caught in a single season.

The Lang\u00e1 River is usually one of Iceland\u2019s top ten salmon rivers in terms of rod catch. It is a beautiful and varied river to fly fish. Indeed only fly fishing is permitted. Generally a single hand 6 to 8 weight rod is sufficient to cover most pools. However, there are few wider pools where a switch rod or a light spey rod can come in handy. Over the years the river\u2019s management have taken many steps to improve the fishing including building 5\u00a0salmon ladders, regulating the river flows from the lake that feeds it and working on the channel in certain areas to improve holding pools.

Flowing out of Lake Thingvallavatn, the Sog or Sogid is Iceland\u2019s largest clearwater river. It is a reasonably priced river known for large multi-winter salmon and plentiful char. The average annual catch of salmon on the Sog is approximately 400 fish and they can run up to over 20 pounds. However, the river also offers good fishing for arctic char of up to 3 kilos in size. One of the big advantages that the Sog has over many Icelandic salmon rivers is that it never suffers problems with water levels as it is fed by the largest lake in Iceland. It is thus immune from the low water problems that come with periodic droughts that wreak havoc from time to time on the fishing on other Icelandic rivers.

Over the years the Drozdovka River has earned its fame as one of the premier big fish Atlantic salmon rivers in the Kola Peninsula. Located within the Arctic Circle on the northern shores of the peninsula, the Drozdovka is one of the Kola Rivers where you will have the best chances of catching\u00a0 20 lb + and even 30 lb + plus fish. The gin clear water of this mid-sized river are a joy to fish with a number of beautiful pools which are largely wadeable.

It is considered one of the best rivers in the world for large msw salmon. Under the protection of the Atlantic Salmon Reserve and its strict catch and release policy and other conservation efforts the river has prospered. It is said that every year fish in the 30+ kilo range are hooked but because of their strength and the power of the river\u2019s currents they have always escaped. Nevertheless, captures of fish of over 10 kilos are frecuent and fish in the 20+ kilo range have been caught here.

The Kola River is one of the Kola Peninsula\u2019s most accesible salmon rivers within a relatively short drive of Murmansk. Consequently it does get quite a bit of fishing pressure from the locals. Nevertheless, its limited access fly waters give fishermen a chance to spread out a bit. It is another of Kola\u2019s big fish rivers where salmon in the 10+ kilo range are nothing exceptional and encounters with monsters of 15 + kilos occur with surprising frequency, as it is a river easily accesible by road, programs are economically priced.

The Sidorovka river is one of the most beautiful and remote salmon rivers of Kola peninsula. As in many others rivers in the northern Kola Peninsula, mainly spring and summer run fish make up the bulk of the returning salmon. The first fish begin arriving in early June. There are no large holding pools the lower part of the river, so the fish come in an it run up river despite cold high water. The first holding pools appear only 3-4 km \u00a0from the sea. June salmon in Sidorovka are large full bodied salmon. Fish in the\u00a08 to 9 kg range are common and there are good chances to hook 100 cm+ salmon.

For salmon fishermen in the know, this gem of a river on the nortthern coast of the Kola Peninsula is synonimous with big salmon and epic battles between man and fish. It is known as a young man\u2019s river because of its heavy currents and difficult wading. It is indeed a substantial river with lots of fast water pocked with boulders and the truth is that fishermen should be in good shape if they want to get the most of it. Nevertheless, some of its less demanding waters can still offer large prizes to fishermen who are not quite as fit physically.
